The No Hate Embassy Fellowship is a 6-month immersive experience designed for young, active individuals eager to deconstruct hate speech narratives and lead positive change in the Euro-Mediterranean region. It incorporates blended learning through online activities and in-person training, through:
1/ Deep understanding of hate speech dynamics
Participants will learn about the complexities of hate speech and its impact on society.
2/ Digital campaign creation and management
Fellows will work collaboratively to create impactful digital campaigns addressing hate speech.
3/ Content creation for social impact
They will develop skills in crafting messages that resonate with their communities.
4/ Event planning and facilitation
Organizing local dissemination events will empower fellows to engage with their communities effectively.
On the 4th of May 2025, we gathered our 30 selected fellows to kick off the #NoHateEmbassy fellowship with an intensive training course in Filadelfia, Italy. The mission was to prepare them for the subsequent stages of the program by tackling the complex issue of hate speech head-on.
Throughout the week, fellows deepened their knowledge on hate speech and explored the topic through lively group discussions, creative expressions like theatre and poetry, and presentations on their national realities. The training was designed to equip them with the skills and tools needed to dissect hate speech and counter it effectively through powerful digital campaigns for a more peaceful, hate-free Euro-Mediterranean region.
The core of the training focused on several key areas:
Analyzing hate speech using established frameworks from the Council of Europe to understand its local impact.
Crafting communication strategies by learning powerful digital tools like the GAMMMA+ model.
Designing effective content with the help of visual design toolkits and structured posting calendars.
Building clear campaign messages that would be ready for launch.
The training wrapped up with every fellow having crafted their first campaign, which is set to go live on June 18th, the International Day of No Hate, and with a clear action plan for the months ahead. Along with our partners, we are continuing to support and mentor them throughout this journey, until we reunite in Morocco for the next phase of the fellowship.
The campaign group from Italy directs its efforts against discrimination in the labour market against people who engage in online activism, especially on LinkedIn. It opposes the misuse of hate speech to silence the voices of employees and/or exclude qualified candidates, advocating for the protection of digital expression in the professional environment. The goal is to raise awareness, promote dialogue, and advocate for fairer hiring practices that do not punish activism.
In this article, as a part of the No Hate Embassy (NHE) project, our NHE Italy Fellows walk you through essential things you need to know about hate speech and silencing, and what practical steps to take if it happens to you or someone you know. Read it now:
